Our Journey

Progressive New Hope Baptist Church was organized in 1875 under the leadership of Rev. Tilman Smart within the Third Ward community.  This congregation rose to great prominence during the 51 years of spiritual guidance under the late Dr. N.S. Brown.  PNHBC continues to be nurtured in God's Word and challenged to excel in ministry under the Rev. L.L. Atkins, Sr.

In April 2011, with a congregation of less than one hundred members guided by our visionary pastor, we were blessed to complete the construction of our new worship and ministry church facility, after three years of displacement.  Our previous church building, constructed under the leadership of Dr. N.S. Brown in 1941, was severely damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Our church treasures her rich tradition of soulful singing, gospel preaching, empowering fellowship, serving our community at large, and supporting foreign missions.  Our rich tradition propels us forward in adopting new and innovative methods for improving ministry that meets the demands of our culture.  We are a congregation determined to glorify God by evangelizing the unsaved and unchurched, while discipling the saved.

Our adult and youth ministries are designed to lead persons to spiritual maturity through worship, prayer, biblical instruction, and Christian fellowship as well as to enrich our recreational, cultural, and social development.

We extend a warm welcome to everyone to come and experience the celebration with us.  You may also find us on Atkins. We celebrate our Lord, Jesus Christ, for His marvelous grace that He showers upon us daily!
